In order to generate a hot spot of, say, 90 degrees inside the cage, it is going to have to get REALLY hot under the melamine... and it will have to maintain that pretty much consistently. That is asking for big trouble. Plastic components and the plastic-like melamine surface will melt, the MDF inside will start to smolder, and a fire will occur. I like TheBoaGuy's idea better. I have used plexi to do exactly that before. The heat generated by the UTH will be lower, and it will use less electricity too!
