I'm not really all that up on point and shoots but here's what you look for, OPTICAL zoom. The difference in optical and digital zoom is that digital zoom is merely an enlarged and cropped version of the same capture done by the camera's internal software. Blowing up an image file reduces the quality. Optical zoom is true zoom. The image is magnified through the lens before it's captured.
Olympus, Pentax, Fuji, Nikon, Canon, Kodak etc...all good and plenty to choose from in your price range. I'd steer clear of off brands.
