6 to 8 inches isn't a large pleco. They get huge in ponds. I was a fish hatchery in Florida once several years ago and a guy that ran the place pulled a big one out by the spike to show me what a big one really was. He was standing up straight holding the fish near his waste and the tail was in the pond under water. This thing had to weigh 40-50 pounds.
