As far as the original topic of this thread. Just call around to a couple of glass places in your area. Give them the diminsions and thickness of the glass you want and tell them you are looking for tempered glass and you probably want it polished on the sides.
I found when calling around that the prices varied alot among shops in the area. The place I went with charged me around $12.00 a sheet for 1/4" glass with polished edges that was 24"x11".
The polished edges will cost a little more but to me it looks nicer and helps make the doors slide smoother.
Just an FYI also, most glass places charge by the square foot so for example if you get a piece of glass that is say 35x15 you will be charged for a 36x24 piece.
