In the wild most snakes that are shedding spend time in hiding rather than doing other activities such as hunting because of decreased sight. Over time their bodies adapted to this, so naturally their metabolisms slow when they are in shed, needing less food. Even if the snake is hungry some will not eat because they feel more vulnerable. When a snake is eating it can not defend it's self, making it defenseless. When the eyes are clouded over it is also vulnerable, so naturally, eating while shedding is very dangerous for a snake. And they know it. Some will eat, some won't. -Juggalo
