I found out the hard way that you have to make sure it is completely dry when putting it in or it takes forever to dry out in the cage. I don't think a temporary spike will be harmfull but constant wetness would be. I baked mine because had I had no spray and had to make sure it completely cooled and didn't make condensation because the condensation made it wet.
