Ball's tend to be the snake of choice for beginner's and if they are captive bred there is usally very little problem's! As far as male vs. female size is the only real difference! Male's you can expect to get between 4 to 5 feet and female's between 5 to 6 feet, with 6 feet really pushing the large end of the scale. Go ahead and get him one he'll love it!
