.. in the coastal plain of Cameron County, Texas between Brownsville and Los Fresnos there is a large dry lake bed that was formed about 50 years ago when flood-control projects were initiated. This area is basically a dry salt or alkaline playa but it does occasionally flood again. Lately it has gone for such long periods without water that a variety of terrestrial wildlife has established there.

This type of lizard is apparently now abundant.. they use any little hole or crack in the dry surface..
