When a Hero Falls
He rode into our lives on the back of a crocodile,
he appeared suddenly one day.
Showing off the wonders of the animal world,
reaching out to everyone in his own unique way.
Because of him, people now love
spiders and snakes and crocs.
Less people are afraid of the creepy-crawlies
that hide under leaves and logs and rocks.
He was a hero, Mother Nature’s Champion,
clad in khaki armor and heavy boots,
he always took the time to care
about toads and frogs and newts.
He became OUR hero,
someone to look up to and say
“look at all the things he’s done,
I want to meet that man some day.”
But as it happens, the hero sometimes falls,
And messengers deliver the news so grim…
His deeds won’t ever be forgotten
but crickey, we’re all going to miss him.
When a hero falls,
the days are dark and the world cries
When a hero falls,
everyone who loved him partially dies.
