Mine two did this as well, they just roamed about on the land and freaked if I stuck them in the water. I lowered their water level to about 5 inches, removed the piece of cork bark i'd been using as a floating island for them and replaced that with lots of broad leafed plants (real ones) this mean't they could get out of the water onto a plant leaf if they wanted to but they had to enter the water to get anywhere.
