Last friday the guys here at work called me down to the parking lot. There was a green iguana, 1 foot SVL or so, seems healthy, sitting in the parking lot between the cars. They tell me it has been around for quite a while (months). She/he is probably an escape or a release, since they are not natural to here and seem fairly tame, allowed me to even touch her tail.
Before I could decide to grab her she bolted for a tree and got very high. When I left for home it was still up there. This is a corporate park with lots of trees and a small pond/fountain. We have lots of anoles (some quite large), but green iguanas are NOT natural to this environment. Around us are streets, apartment buildings and traffic.
Now, the question is : should I try to catch it or leave it? My concern is that a car will run her over eventually. She lays on the tar to sun herself behind or in front of the cars. Somebody is just not going to notice and... squash. I am not sure what I would do with her. I still have the one male (he owns the balcony of my apartment ) and would have to get/build a cage. But it would be better than "squash", no? I know most adoption groups are filled with iguanas, so placing her will be almost impossible. I am moving to the house in the next few weeks and will have plenty of space to keep her.
Not sure what to do...
(Any good ideas on an Iguana "trap", or how to catch her?? Towel/Blanket over her seems the best approach, if I can get her while in the ground, right?)
