That's really sad. It's even difficult for me to find box turtles around here just to make a number count of them. Box turtles can live 100 years and chances of finding mates in the wild becomes more and more slim now a days.
I found a box turtle one time where I used to live.... I was at the lake near my house and I found one near a trail that was heavily used. Some woman came up to me and was offering me $100 bucks to have it. I told her no and I walked off with the turtle. And I was I think 11-12 years old at the time. Anyways, I went into some thick brush, waited until that woman was long gone, and let the turtle go.
People are just stupid.
