Last year I did a series of presentaions on herps for my school... I though they went ok but not as well as I had hoped.
The speech was about 30 mins long and had herps being taken out intermittently; most weren't out for more than a minute. Except at the end where small groups could come up and pet my male bci who was really cool about the whole thing.
I discussed the usual: what defines a reptile, what a snake was that a lizard wasn't, debunking myths, interesting facts (largest, smallest, longest etc), and local herps.
The problem was though that I think I over info'ed my poor audience; it was hard to keep their attention. But most of my information was just laced into what animals I was taking out so it didn't really stand out. I would ask the audience questions (like: do all lizards have legs? --or something similar, a rigged question) and most of them would just star blankly... so I had to pick on people I knew for input. I donno, how much should I expect from a bunch of high schoolers...?
I think I'm going to be doing more this year and I was just wondering how you guys have gone about giving a presentation and had it turn out realy great?
Is my crowd a "tad" old?
I think another one of my problems was that I did it a large room... Leaving the people in the back feeling left out....
So beyond a smaller room is there some topics that really get people into it?
All replies appreciated! Thanks!
