I've looked at those too - They are made to go in the bottom of hanging basket planters for the roots to grow into. I dont think that moisture would be a big problem (since they can be used outside) but you might want to watch it for mold or whatever. You could soak it in some disinfectant and then let it dry to see how it holds up to the soaking. I think it gets a little harder over time but other than that I don't see any reason why you couldn't use it. If you do use it, let me know how it works out....
