20 gallon tank will work just fine, that's kinda what mine is in except it's a reptarium screen cage and she loves it.
Definitely look for a really fat tail and kind of a chubbish body. Ask the people there at the store if you can see it eat for you. Make sure the eyes and nostrils are clear.
Mine kinda knows her name, I call her name "Cookie" in kind of a high tone and wiggle my finger and she'll come right out of her little cave and come right over to me.
That's all the advice I can think of at the moment.
