Well, there are many options these days, such as freeze drying preservation to keep them looking good for a real long time, some will have other mounts made to keep in similar fashion either at home or donate to a museum, while others go for a shed preservation such as the whole animal shkinned and tanned.
It's all up to you, whether to save it in one form or another or to simply bury it.
Although you may want to check on the health regs of your area before dealing with the event of burial.
