Ya, corns are a form of rats. What are sold as corns are usually also called red rat snakes. I have yet to see a corn that was boring, They don't lay back as much like larger boas and pythons so they are typically more active. Most corns now are cbb so a healthy specimen is easy to get. Most any rat snake will be "tame" but I any corn snake can become tame with enough handling. Corns are not picky either which makes them great pets. To top it all off corns come in a lot more colors that the typical north american 'rat snakes'.
