You can't afford an expensive tank, but you can afford to ship a delicate piece of glass that weighs a ton? I'm confused. The shipping on a 10 gallon would probably be in the range of 50 bucks after you factor in packaging it so it doesn't get broken and the cost of sending it. =)
Check newspapers, garage sales, flea markets, Goodwill, Salvation Army, pawn shops... all those places will have tanks show up. I frequently get tanks from Goodwill for 50 cents a gallon, many with nice locking lids too. Also, if you have a pet store that specializes in fish, they will almost always get tanks in on a regular basis... and they rarely can reuse them. Most used tanks are beat to poopy and can't hold water - but are perfect for snakes and lizards.
