I've been participating in this awesome website for a week or two now and figure I'd provide a little info. in case anyone wants to know who I am.
My name is Steve. I'm a native of southern California, but have resided in northern Cal for a number of years. Recently moved back, outside of Sacramento, after spending 10 years in Las Vegas. My advice to anyone thinking of moving to Vegas...don't!
I'm 44 years old, so I imagine I'm one of the "dinosaurs" of the website. Been keeping herps on and off through my life since I was 12. About 5 or 6 years ago I obtained my first boa (a Hog Island) and have had the boa-bug ever since...just can't get enough of these critters! Unfortunately, when I moved from Vegas I had to get ride of my collection (7 snakes, 2 lizards, 2 tortoise) because my new accomodations wouldn't allow the reptiles. Broke my heart. Since then I've relocated to an animal friendly environment and the collection is once again growing (and have vowed never to "unload" my ectothermic friends again!). So far I'm just up to 2 rosy boas (1.1) and 1 Suriname boa (1.0) but the hunt for boas continues. Would like to get into breeding the Surinames and Hogs, but who knows where my boa fancy will take me.
Just got married back in May to Julie, who is a plant and animal (nature) geek like me. We have no children, so our animals fill that space and receive as much spoiling as possible. Julie is very much into the snakes...the first gift I gave her when we were getting to know one another was a cornsnake to see how she'd react...the rest, as they say, is history.
I'm a restoration specialist by trade, working for a company that does ecological restoration...in other words puts back native plants and repairs land that has been disturbed through mining, agriculture, urbanization, etc. It's fun, but stressful work. Julie is a professional horticulturist. I'm also a certified Massage Pratitioner...hey, I'm a native Californian!
I like reading (don't watch much T.V.) and listening to music of the stress reducing kind, hiking, seeing a movie now and then, going to East Bay Vivarium, attending plant and animal society meetings and just generally being "out in the woods" (nature).
Hope that gives everyone a little insight as to who I am, and am looking forward to getting to know other participants as well.
