I take it you have never kept gliders.

Grabbing them by the scruff just makes it more difficult for YOU to get away as they lacerate you . Nimble little critters. If you can apply enough pressure to restrain their head by the scruff, then it is a dangerous amount. Remember they are marsupials, not rodents.
Put on leather work gloves (their teeth are designed to pierce bark, not leather). cover their head with a towel. Just clip as little as possible. Their quick goes quite far down. You just want to turn the needle into a shank
DO NOT use the the bird branches. Glider feet are not tough enough and you risk abrasions and infections.
