First of all, if you are not around the snake is not going to calm down. Snakes like that need to be handled 2-3-4 times a day for a few weeks to get gentled down to the point where you can be gone for several days and they won't forget how to act by the time you come back.
I just gave one like that back to the person who gave it to me after I had calmed it down for them. What works great is every time you go by their cage just reach right in and lay your hand on them. You may get tagged a couple times doing this, but better now than when they are 6ft. or bigger. ANyhow, just keep doing that and sometimes take them out for just a couple minutes and put them right back in their cage. After doing this for several days 6-8 times a day you will really start to notice that they don't care any more about what you are doing with them and actually seem to be ready to come out for a while. Then you can start working on the head area which is the most important place. At first just put your hand in their way while they are crawling or stretching out to get to something from your hand. Just keep your hand in their way, but don't move a lot or jerk around. Then after a few days of that you can start to close your hand lightly around their head, they will pull back at first of course. Don't be to aggressive with them, but just kind of move yoru hand around their head a lot. After a while you will be able to close your hand around their head and they will just keep pushing to get to the other side, wherever that is, LOL!
You probably have some time off around x-mas and new years from being out of town, use it!
