Aluminum 'C' channel should work good for the plexi.

Lowes and Home Depot carry it .

It's a little pricey so you might want to go look, think, buy a piece and try before getting it all.

You can go a little long with it so that it extends over the support legs and possibly attach it there with rivits or screws and possibly might have enough clearance in the channel to rivet it all the way across too.
