Hi Diane,
Either way is fine, as long as dinner is served warm!

Normally, I keep mine in the baggie, I grow my own food, so all I have to do is pull'em out of the freezer and put them straight in the water.

With out a baggie, they lose some scenting, but unless you have a problem feeder, then don't worry too much. The water won't hurt the snake, naturally and it some times seems like it helps them get the food down easier.
