Actually, the leopards were derived from normal-appearing boas. To the best of my knowlege, only a handful of people have produced this morph, also called "mephisto boa".

Striped is one of several abberancies produced by leopard boas. Hermann Stoekl had a reather informative post regarding leopard boas on kingsnake.com, but it seems to now be lost in the abyss- too old to be on the forum, but too new to be in the archives.
