I got to spend some time with the 80-400VR on my D70 and found it to be fine unless you are trying to catch some real fast moving action. For most wild life shots it was fine. i have not been able to get my hands on the 80-200 so I cant help you on that one.
The worst part about that lens was when I had to give it back
