Nikon: 80-200 f/2.8 ED or 80-400 VR?

I know there are a few Nikon users out here; anyone have expierience with either of these? I have heard the AF on the VR is a tad slow (not Interal Focus). Anyone used either or both lens on F100 or D100? I'm wondering just how slow the "slow" is that everyone is talking about. Anyway.. for anyone who has used both... any preferance?
