My cousin gave me an 80 gallon tank a while back, for free- even delivered it for me. It's an odd size, so I couldn't decide what I wanted to put in it. It's 6 feet long but only 1 foot wide- not really enough room for my female boa, as it's too narrow. Well, the other night, a friend of mine called up and asked if I wanted the JCP I sold him last year. He said he just didn't have much time to handle her anymore, and he was willing to give her back to me, no charge, along with the rest of the bag of fuzzy rats he's been feeding her. So, I spent my day off today setting up a cage. Ended up at two different hardware stores, a total of four visits, but finally got it all ready. $10-12 for PVC pipe and fittings, another $10 for stuff to make screen tops, and $5 for turnbuttons to keep the screens on. Already had plexi, screen, and plants. The tank has two braces across the top, so I made three lids- two screen and one piece of plexi to help hold in humidity. I also made two PVC pipe jungle gyms, one on each end of the cage. I had to scrub down the tank because it had been sitting outside, but it's in decent shape- a chip on one corner and a small crack on the opposite side, but nothing a little silicone didn't take care of. So here's the finished product. Not bad for spending a total of no more than $30!
