Gravid BP
Today I went into Petland in Brownsville Texas, they had a sign for selling a pregnant BP for 129.99, out of curiousity I asked to see her. Bad mistake, she was covered in ticks and dirt,looks to be wild caught,had a heating pad but no substrate at all, bare glass and a very small water dish,empty that she was trying to fit into, looks like she is getting ready to maybe shed, I dont know cause she was so dirty and underweight badly and the cage was high up so I couldnt see well. They were even going to let me handle her until I told them they shouldnt be touching a gravid snake. God only knows how much she has been man handled. I then proceeded to run my mouth loudly about the care of her, embarassing my husband.The burm in the other tank wasnt as bad but it was covered in waste,ticks and dirty appeareance. Dead animals in tanks, I mean this place used to be decent.
Is there anything I can do to stop this, or help them out? All the employess that work at this PetLand have no sence what so ever and try to tell you things about snakes that well, dont make much sence. I am not saying I know everything about snakes but use a little common sence and at least remove the ticks,give her some water and something to lay on besides bare glass. How do I go about getting these conditions taken care of without #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& off employees that may take thier hatred out on these guys? I would have bought the BP (cause it felt like the right thing to do but a bad investment) since I fancy them and two of my 4 snakes are BP's. I didnt wanna risk parisites around my other snakes, costly vet bills that I cant attend to right now and the risk of R.I and other things. I had cash on hand but I just walked away and I feel guilty right now. Cause the person who most likely buys her will think, oh cool many snakes for the price of one and wont know how to properly take care if the eggs. (Doubtful any will survive or may be duds, I dunno)Not saying that I know how but I would at least ask here how to do this and try to do right.
I guess I am just upset about this and feel like I need to at least try for her sake. I keep wanting to go back and buy her just so I know she will be taken care of, I know better though. *Sigh*
