I purchased the digital rebel last December and I have been pleased with it. I have taken some really great pictures with it. I've heard great things about the nikon n70, but the fact about the noise in low light and slow shutter speed sorta makes me worry, due to the fact when you take pictures of herps in the wild, often its low light. And for lens I got the package where you get the 17-55mm lens. However I would also recomend getting the 100mm macro canon lens, its sorta expensive 400-500, but its worth it. Best and most vaulable lens I have. But as far as the camera itself, I love it. Its been worth the money. If you are looking to save money, I'd go with a really good 35mm canon then upgrade when the 20D is cheaper or something like that. If you can spare a little time and some money, wait and look into the 20D its awesome. But as far as the rebel, I'm more than satisfied with it.
