Awesome camera for the money, but as I found out.... if you can swallow a couple hundred more go with the Nikon D70. My wife and I have both the Digital Rebel and the D70. The lenses, metering, features, and overall feel of the D70 is MUCH better than the Rebel. One thing I have noticed though is that if you are shooting in low light, slow shutter speed, or high ISO ratings the D70 has a lot of noise in comparison to the Rebel.
Which ever one you go with you should be happy though.
Some tips that I learned from trying to get off cheap....
- Dont skimp when it comes to an off camera flash, buy a good one! The cheap off brand ones lose a lot of functionality.
- If you get the Rebel, get a 50mm Prime lens. It's cheap, fast, and is sharp. Add a close up filter and you can get some decent macro shots. Heres a link to the lens at B & H:

- Get as much memory as you can. You will be surprised how fast the cards fill up.
- Do NOT buy the Canon 100-300 Zoom lens that costs around $200. It's junk and has some pretty pitiful image quality.
Simply put... save up and buy the good stuff when you get around to adding equipment.
