The only factor that I considered when discouraging you from taking on a burm was memory of how skittish you were when you first got your boa. Wait till you have to deal with a burm feeding response  I've been dealing with them for most of my adult life and I still get a little heart flutter when I feel the power of how hard they hit their food. You are going to need some snake tongs to hand him rabbits with. Don't try it by hand and hemostats or those long tweezers just won't work....Also I know he seems like a 60 pounder. They always seem a lot heavier than they are but when you weigh him, I'd be surprised if he's over 25 lbs. When he does hit 60-70 pounds, even though he may be only a foot or less longer than he is now, he's still over twice as much snake and much more intimidating and you won't be able to hold him like you are in the photos.

About the bright lights:
I'll be keeping him in my bedroom which is BLACK as midnight almost all the time. I never use my bedroom other than sleeping so the light is rarely on.
So i can never take him to the park then in the summer? that kinda makes me a bit sad.
I wish they had snake eye goggles. *laughs*
O well He's safer @ home anyways.
I ws skittish when I first had my persephone. I never had a huge snake before. I had her for 4 years though and I got really used to her. I mean we used to take naps together. heh
I'm actually in the market for a good pair of tongs. Would barbeque ones work in the meantime? I have these HUGE ONES like a little longer than 2 feet and they are really strong and duarble and have no moving parts or anything. wooden handle on them. THey are one continuous piece of metal folded over and then the tong end parts are shaped in squares.
I already have a 4 foot by 2 feet "killing box" rubbermaid for him when it comes time to feed.
it's see through. What I was thinking of doing is using these bungee cords I have and wrapping them around the killing box 2ce, then with the assistance of boyfriend, lifting one side enough to quickly slip tonged rabbit in there then let go of the lid of the box....so that the box is pretty tight on there and I can wave the rabbit around without getting tagged. and without giving myself a heart attack hehe.

I would NEVER try to hand feed him. I'm not that brave/silly.
Do you think he is going to get a lot heavier?
he's already around the 7 year mark.
I do have a strong boyfriend who is more than willing to help me with him.
I just want to give this guy a good home yunno? He needs more attention and I have a lot of spare time. I work from home.
I feel confident in this endevour. And if I ever feel I cannot supply this animal with a good and healthy environment to be in, I have already contacted the toronto zoo and the vancouver aquarium and they both said that they would be happy to take on such an animal for their exhibits. But for now, I want to try.
