He looks a tad on the scrawny side, He may be such a good eat cuz he isn't getting enough. I dunno may just be the way it looks in the pics. I think if properly fed I bet he would put another 2' on pretty quick not over night but within a year.
If your gonna have someone around to help you handle during maintenance then go for it. If your gonna be alone most of the time when handling, then dont. Pretty much as simple as that. None of us can tell you if you can handle it. Your definately not stupid when it comes to snakes. If you think you can handle him then go for ir.
