yah, I agree with that statement Lisa made,
when you breed a female at a smaller size/ or a younger age, they use food resources that follow to regain what they lost during gestation and egg laying, the females will slow in growth sometimes.
If you wait a good 3-4 years and feed her well and get her bit bigger, she will end up being a better breeder , and recover much easier from the egg laying process.
That takes an enormous amount of energy,
if you have a female that lays eggs in mid to late summer, you only have a few months to get body weight back up to pre wintering level, in order to ensure that she does well over the winter resting period, if you are giving her one.
I personally havent hibernated a snake in 3 years, and get fertile eggs every year, so hibernation may not be absolutely necessary depending on species of snake.
