I have a very similiar "problem" with my BP.
First he is approx 1 year old this or next month (not sure of the exact date of birth)...
He is 3 feet long and well proportioned.
He will ONLY eat white mice.
I have never fed him SIX though. I have one time gone to 4, but normally he will eat 3 about every 8 days.
He doesnt seem to grow any more, almost as if this amount of food is just maintaining his size -- not sure, maybe thats another post...
But he will refuse rats of any size shape or color. He will even refuse mice that arent white. Only ONCE, when he was a hatchling, did he eat anything else, and that was a hamster pink.
he will likewise refuse DEAD mice. He will eat "stunned" mice, that makes me nervous but I have tried EVERYTHING, please believe me.
ALL of our other snakes eat frozen or freshly killed mice or rats with no problems.
Anyway -- I tried to switch my BP to rats sometime ago -- but he refuses.
I tried darn near starving him at one point -- he skipped 3 meals, and nothing.
I tried a mouse, and once he was in feeding mode, slipping him a rat, and nothing.
I tried rat pinks, rat pups, WHITE rats, dead rats and yes, even live rats.
Nothing.
I went as far as offering him the prey in his tank.
Nothing.
And now, in the last month or so, he seems to either be refusing his "normal" meals, or not eating as much...
In the last month he has eaten only 3 mice total.
One last week.
And 2 two weeks prior.
The only other time feeding him was like this was about 6 months ago, in the fall.
He totally refused food for about six weeks at that time.
He seems healthy, happy, and is VERY tame. Almost TOO tame.
He is VERY pretty, like I said well proportioned, and has what some call a "high gold" pattern to him.
Any thoughts appreciated.
Although -- I almost give up on trying to change him, I think I will offer him from 1 to 3 mice and let the little bugger be happy, unless someone has some GOOD advice.
Thanks!!!
