It has only been in the last 18 months that reptiles have been able to be kept legally in captivity there.
Carpet Pythons, that sell here on the East Coast for $200, sell on the West coast for up to $1200.
As there is a huge desert divide between east and west, diseases have been able to be kept out of WA, this also means that eastern species are not allowed to be shipped in and kept there, although they are allowed to be shipped out to the east coast. Makes for really small pickings for the West Aussies when it comes to collecting and purchasing.
Big dollars there.
