hmm i use the probe for the cool side and the unit itself for the hot. I get better humidity reading from the warm side because it's a lil more accurate. But anywho, what i did was run the cord on the outside of the tank because I dont want my snakes getting tangled in it especially when they burrow.

its all in preference i guess. =D
