Their are over 50,000 described (estimates are that there are over half a million) species of mite in the world. They inhabit every corner of the globe (funny, sense globes have no corners) , with the exception of the extreme polar regions. Of these 50,000 , 250 are known to be parasitic to reptiles. Mainly non-aquatic squamates (lizards, snakes, and amphisbaenians) are effected. However there are aquatic mites, but i am unaware as to whether or not any of them have reptilian hosts.

Mites are us.
